This beautiful family recently visited my Shelby studio for a portrait session, and as I photographed them together, I couldn't help but think about how quickly these seasons pass. The truth is, childhood changes quietly. One day your baby doesn't look quite so much like a baby anymore, and your little girl suddenly seems so grown up.
That's the beauty of family photography. It allows us to hold onto these fleeting seasons just a little longer.

There is something incredibly special about this stage of childhood.
Children begin developing their own personalities, their own interests, and their own unique way of seeing the world. They are still wonderfully little, yet you can already catch glimpses of the person they are becoming.
As I photographed this sweet girl, I couldn't help but notice the confidence in her smile and the quiet curiosity in her expressions. These are the details parents don't always notice changing day by day because they're living alongside them.
But photographs have a beautiful way of revealing just how much growth has happened.
One day, these images won't simply remind her parents what she looked like. They'll remind them exactly who she was during this season of life—the little girl with bright eyes, a sweet smile, and a world of possibilities ahead of her.
The Baby Stage That Disappears Overnight
Babies change faster than any other season of childhood.
One month brings a new smile. The next brings a new expression. Before you know it, they're sitting, crawling, walking, and growing into little people with personalities all their own.
This sweet boy spent much of his session taking in the world around him with wide-eyed wonder. Every expression felt genuine and fleeting, the kind of moments parents wish they could bottle up forever.
The chubby cheeks. The tiny fingers. The way he looks up at the world as though every single thing is brand new.
These are the details that disappear first.
The truth is, we rarely realize we're experiencing a "last" while we're living it. The last gummy smile. The last time they fit comfortably in your lap. The last season before they outgrow being a baby entirely.
